چکیده
The influence of carbon concentration variations on pearlite formation (20 h at 600 °C) in a case-carburized steel is investigated. resultant microstructure shows three distinct regions: carburized case, transition region, and the original core. microstructural from case to core regions observed be relatively sharp. investigated region (0.9 wt.% C) contains two types pearlite: ferrite + cementite M23C6, where pearlitic aggregate with M23C6 faster kinetics. kinetics (0.3 very slow only carbide. Only around 40% austenite decomposes into which, comparison 0.9 C fraction that lower by factor two. Pearlite absent (0.16 C). this predominantly martensite pro-eutectoid ferrite, well below equilibrium fraction. Ferrite limited redistribution mainly Ni, Mn, Cr, their resulting solute drag effect austenite/ferrite interface. A thermodynamic kinetic argumentation these observations provided help data, precipitation simulations, general mixed-mode Gibbs energy balance model.

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur Comparison of Globularisation Behaviour during Reheating Treatment of Different Pearlitic Microstructures
Pearlitic steels present very interesting mechanical properties when weldability requirements are not too severe. Thin gauge pearlitic steels require at least one intermediate annealing treatment between hot rolling and cold rolling. The globularised cementite in medium carbon steels provides then higher ductility, formability and machinability. On the other hand, in-line induction heating devi...
متن کاملAnalysis of Fatigue Crack Paths in Cold Drawn Pearlitic Steel
In this paper, a fracto-metallographic analysis was performed on the cracked specimens of cold drawn pearlitic steel subjected to fatigue tests. Fatigue cracks are transcollonial and exhibit a preference for fracturing pearlitic lamellae, with non-uniform crack opening displacement values, micro-discontinuities, branchings, bifurcations and frequent local deflections that create microstructural...
متن کاملStudy on Corrosion Behavior of Pearlitic Rail Steel
The present study is an attempt to find out the effect of environmental corrosion on the commonly used pearlitic rail steel. The cases of corrosion of rail under Indian environment have been studied. It has been found that in marine environment both the yield strength and tensile strength decreases with increasing corrosion rate. In acidic environment yield strength increased with increasing co...
متن کاملUltra-strong and damage tolerant metallic bulk materials: A lesson from nanostructured pearlitic steel wires
Structural materials used for safety critical applications require high strength and simultaneously high resistance against crack growth, referred to as damage tolerance. However, the two properties typically exclude each other and research efforts towards ever stronger materials are hampered by drastic loss of fracture resistance. Therefore, future development of novel ultra-strong bulk materi...
متن کاملProgressive Changes in the Microstructure and Texture in Pearlitic Steel during Wire Drawing
The evolution of microstructure and texture during wire drawing of pearlitic steel was studied using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Wire drawing induces elongation of ferrite grains with the development of <110> fibre texture. The cementite lamellae also have a tendency to reorient themselves along the wire axis with increasing strain. Viscoplastic self-consistent simulatio...
